Century & Woodland Barns

With a capacity for up to 155 guests, our beautiful barns lie at the heart of our venue. The original 17th-century barn has been extensively renovated to honour its heritage while incorporating modern amenities, and our new Woodland Barn has been thoughtfully integrated using exceptional traditional craftsmanship.

Spanning a generous 24x8 metres, the Woodland Barn is bathed in natural light from a large lightwell and a bifold glass wall that opens onto the patio and beyond for a seamless transition into the stunning gardens.

Both barns are equipped with bespoke lighting, climate control systems, including air conditioning and heating, as well as a premium PA and sound system. To ensure every detail is flawlessly managed for your wedding breakfast and evening reception, the Woodland Barn also features a state-of-the-art catering kitchen and a generously sized bar.

Our Gardens

Set within two acres of stunning grounds bording the South Downs National Park, our gardens were designed by RHS Chelsea Flower Show Gold Medallist, Juliet Sargeant.

The gardens play an important role in your wedding, forming the perfect backdrop for your photographs and a picturesque setting for your guests to enjoy.

With subtle outdoor lighting throughout, our gardens are suitable for daytime or evening events. You can even see The Long Man of Wilmington from our wildflower glamping meadow - yet another feature that makes Alfriston a special and unique venue to welcome your guests.

Lavender Lodge, Oak Lodge, Vine Lodge & Shepherd Huts

Lavender Lodge provides a tranquil honeymoon suite for you both to enjoy on your wedding night. It also provides privacy ahead of the ceremony and a relaxing atmosphere for the wedding party to prepare for the day ahead.

The Lodge has a stunning open-plan living and dining area which wraps around an impressive stairwell, decorated with the signature bees of acclaimed Jewellery designer, Alex Munroe. There is also a fully equipped kitchen, opening up the option to self-cater, or even better, why not hire a private chef to do the work for you?

Pampering yourself in a bathroom with sweeping views of the South Downs, or relaxing in your master bedroom, the Lodge provides a restorative countryside getaway. There is even a sofa bed and a huge ground floor wet room, making the space suitable for those with mobility challenges.

Oak Lodge provides two double and two twin bedrooms and one honeymoon suite. It is the perfect place to unwind, with a multifunctional space on the ground floor where breakfast is served.

The Shepherd Huts at Alfriston Gardens are perfect for those who wish to stay somewhere out of the ordinary.

These nine enchanting huts are all en-suite double bedrooms nestled within our wildflower gardens. They offer a cosy, fully insulated retreat, blending local heritage with the comfort of modern amenities. Wake up to the serene beauty of nature, right on your doorstep.

Vine Lodge is a luxurious modern building developed to blend in with the backdrop of the Downs. It features a living roof and ten contemporary bedrooms, four of which are family rooms.

Alfriston Gardens offers 25 guest rooms in total, accommodating 50-58 guests. With twin rooms, doubles and spacious family rooms (sleeping up to four guests) the venue also boasts two fully accessible bedrooms and all our accommodations have bespoke furnishings and luxury ensuites.

During the core development phase of Alfriston’s £5 million transformation, we also expanded the venue’s lodging capacity to provide exclusive-use accommodation for up to 58 guests. Our lodges and charming shepherd's huts are all onsite, allowing couples to have their family and friends close by, before retiring to the serenity of our luxurious private honeymoon cottage.

At Alfriston our events team plays a pivotal role in making every celebration unforgettable and stress-free. We work closely with each couple to ensure that every detail of their special day runs seamlessly, from initial planning to flawless execution. We also take great pride in our catering, provided by Black Pepper Hospitality, who craft bespoke menus with fresh local ingredients. Whether it's a formal dinner, casual buffet, or specialised options like vegan or kosher meals, every dish is served with care by our expert hospitality team, ensuring a first-class dining experience.
