Is anyone else still buzzing from the Olympics and Paralympics? I don’t know about you, but my social life was completely on hold while it was on! I can’t believe we have to wait another four years before it rolls around again. As someone whose idea of exercise is getting off the sofa and grabbing a snack, I always admire everyone who takes part.
When the time came to write to you for this issue, the Olympic moto got me thinking: faster, higher, stronger – together. It’s that final word that always causes my heart to soar. It’s that one word that truly speaks to what the Olympics is all about. It’s bringing the world together in friendship and camaraderie, and does the same within the teams of each individual competing country.
When planning this issue of Your Sussex Wedding, the notion of togetherness came to me again. It defines a marriage, doesn’t it? You are, after all, in it together and that’s why you say “I do” and make those vows. You form a forever partnership to navigate life together. I believe that’s the way forward for all of us. In the words of the popular wedding bible reading from 1 Corinthians 13:4 – “Love is patient, love is kind.”

Spotlight on... Brighton, Worthing and Lewes |

Castle Goring
Set within the South Downs National Park on the outskirts of Worthing, Castle Goring was said by Lord Byron to be “the most romantic castle in the land.” One of its claims to fame is as the first house ever to be built with dual facades: Greco Roman on the south and castellated Gothic on the north. The Castle has many magnificent rooms that can be used to stage your fairytale day, including the grand State Rooms and the stunning horseshoe staircase with its famous steps down to the Italian Terrace and South Lawns.
Here, you have the choice of two locations when it comes to the “I dos,” the beautiful Ceremonial Hall with its double height ceiling, seating up to 100, or the South Lawns with the fabled Greco-Roman façade as your backdrop or altar with space for up to 180.
Castle Goring isn’t open to the public, which assures you exclusive use for the duration of your big day. With award-winning catering, venue stylists, and a host of preferred suppliers and celebrants to cater for your every need, you can realise your dreams, whatever the season.
The Castle itself caters for intimate wedding parties of up to 26 where you can dine at the table formerly used at Buckingham Palace, or up to 50 in the Entrasol overlooking the lawns via the Italian Terrace. The latter is decorated simply allow you to style as you wish, and it’s also ideally positioned for dancing later on. Meanwhile, the Ceremonial Hall is ideal for larger parties and live bands.
For smaller weddings, Lady Colin Campbell offers the option to enjoy the use of the dinner service Emperor Napoleon I gave to the Empress Josephine for her private use at the Chateau de Malmaison, together with the Imperial and Royal silver of the Bonaparte, Wurttemburg, and Italian Royal families.
For larger parties, the Grand Marquee will host up to 180 guests seated comfortably. The interior is ivory lined from ceiling to walls with light carpet and allows you to style it according to your tastes and theme; plus with its clear walls and ceiling panels, it provides a wonderful panoramic view of the South Terrace, lawns and stunning architecture of the castle.
On the first floor, accessed by the Bryon Passage, there’s an enfilade of three large interconnecting State Rooms, known as the Aphrodite Drawing Room, the Galba Drawing Room and the Library. These are perfect for enjoying reception drinks and for after-dinner relaxation. In the Aphrodite Drawing Room there’s a finely tuned piano, which may be used by professional pianists if desired, at no additional charge.
The Bridal Suite, named in honour of the great romantic couple who owned the Castle originally, Mary and Percy Shelley, is perfect for getting ready the morning of the wedding. Filled with natural light, the room also boasts an imperial-sized bed with a fantastic domed canopy and exquisite French furniture. Having a photo taken with the bridesmaids in the roll-top bath has become quite the tradition among the Castle’s brides!
Everyone will receive a warm welcome at Castle Goring, even your four-legged fur baby. The team here understand just how important this special guest is to you, which is why they even provide on-site dog sitters so you don’t need to worry about giving your pooch your undivided attention on such a busy day.

Michelin-star perfection at The Pass |
|
Editor Kelly Andrews recently got the exciting chance to visit Michelin-star restaurant, The Pass, located at South Lodge in Horsham. Read on as Kelly explains why it's a must-visit if you're celebrating your engagement or for the ultimate date-night treat. It's been a long-held dream of mine to dine at a Michelin-star establishment, so when I was invited to The Pass with chef Ben Wilkinson at the helm, I leapt at the chance. I'd heard that Ben's seasonal menu was full of delectable flavours, earning the restaurant not only that coveted Michelin star but also four AA Rosettes – my mouth was already watering at the prospect of the seven course tasting menu!
